Baguio Public Market

  • The city market is known for being the ‘melting pot’ of the Cordillera. It is where you can find all the variety of products from different cities, it has wet goods section selling fresh and processed meats plus fish and seafood from the lowland provinces.
  • It was established as the main point of trade in Baguio in 1913.
  • The land title has an area of 77, 770 square meters but in 1960’s the 4,672 sq. m. was leased to the Baguio Hilltop Enterprises to build the Hilltop Hotel while the 5,000 sq. meters was leased to build the Maharlika Livelihood Center.

Jollibee Session Prime

  • Jollibee Session Prime was the first ever Jollibee franchise that was established here in Baguio in 1990.
  • It became a little gesture of hope to the citizens of Baguio because it is also one of the structures that withstand the 1990’s earthquake.
  • After 29 years in service, the branch decided to close on March 1, 2019.

Skyworld

  • Skyworld is one of the iconic ukay-ukay center in Baguio city. It is located in Lower Session Road, Baguio City, fronting Prime Hotel and City Center Hotel.
  • This commercial center used to be one of Baguio’s primitive shopping center who also did not survive the 1990’s earthquake. It was a 10-storey floor that fell out on the property. Afterwards, it was immediately rebuild by the government of Baguio.

Bombay Bazaar

  • One of the biggest department store that owned by Indian businessmen. It was patronized of people in Baguio through the years.
  • It was also damaged by the earthquake. The whole building were slowly hammered and dismantled only by hand.
  • After the ruins, the property were sold and it was now a restaurant.

Pines Theater

  • The Art-Deco style cinema was built in June 21, 1947.
  • It has been renamed as the “Pines Arcade” that became a mini store.
  • On November 5, 2018, the cinema was covered by fire.
  • Currently, a pharmacy store was built beneath the building.

Landmarks at Session Road

Session road is the main hub of the Baguio Business Central District. It is considered as one of the major road in Baguio City; both connecting the Lower Session and Upper Session road.

Baguio Cathedral

  • Our Lady of the Atonement Cathedral is most commonly known as Baguio Cathedral. It is one of the first structure that the American colonial government built in Baguio.
  • In 1920, the first chapel is solely dedicated for St. Patrick and was built by the missionaries of the Congregatio Immaculati Cordis Mariae (CICM or the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary). The chapel was relocated on a hill called “Kampo” of the Ibaloy and was renamed Mount of Mary by a Belgian Missionary.
  • It was sanctify on July 9, 1936.
  • As a historical church, it is also known being a ‘miracle church’ since it is the only building that was left standing during the World War II serving as military headquarters.

Porta Vaga

  • A shopping mall opened since 2002
  • After the 1990 Luzon earthquake, the Diocese of Baguio decided to construct a mall that will aim to finance the repair of the church.
  • Fr. Lorenzo Abela Jr., Porta Vaga chief operating officer said that the church undertook the old commercial building to be enhanced costing 40 million and to turn into a business establishments.
  • It existed to support the missionary works of the Diocese of Baguio, Vicariate of Bontoc-Lagawe and Tabuk. 

Maharlika Livelihood Center

  • A popular city landmark during mid-1930’s. It was known as the trade center in Baguio. 
  • In 1945, one of its buildings was repaired and it was named as “Baguio Stone Market”
  • The ravaging market fire on February 19, 1970 destroyed all the stalls and the dry good sections living the whole Stone Market into ashes.
  • In 1975, Mar-Bay & Co., Inc. offered to build a 17-storey hotel and a large commercial building on the site of the Stone Market. Civic groups and the Market Fire Victims’ Association strongly opposed the project.
  • While in 1978, construction on the hotel project stopped but resumed two years later for the building of a five-storey complex which became the Maharlika Livelihood Center.

Malcolm Square

  • Malcolm Square, also known as People’s Park. This is the Baguio’s version of Manila’s Plaza Miranda, where political rallies and debates are held.
  • It is named after American Justice George A. Malcolm, who drafted the charter of Baguio to become a city in the year 1909.
  • Before the Americans came, Ibaloy tend to see it as an area where people gathered and conducted trade. It also became as an open park where people socialize.

SM Baguio

  • It is a commercial mall opened on November 21, 2003 but even before it is known as the first premiere accommodation site for lowland visitors and called as “Pines Hotel”.
  • The Pines Hotel is a wood- framed, four-story structure located in this hillside tourist resort at Luneta Hill. It served as a symbol of the northern Philippine famous city that is well known for its cool climate, fog, and conifer trees. 
  • Until in 1984, it was burned down by a massive fire destroying the entire 423-room hotel without any clarified reason where it has started.
  • As early as 1995, Henry Sy bought the real estate and launched the building of his 16th SM supermall.
